Developer and fund manager Lendlease has signed an agreement with digital connectivity certification agency WiredScore to rate commercial buildings on their technical capabilities.
Wiredscore, based out of New York, rates the connectivity and technological capacity of commercial buildings and makes it available through a public register.
Since launching in 2013, the company has rated 50 million square metres of commercial real estate globally, scores commercial buildings on everything from the quality of phone reception to internet speed across the US, UK and Europe.
The company’s certification has fast become an internationally recognised rating system for commercial real estate, helping landlords design and promote their buildings’ digital connectivity and technological capacity to tenants.
The company is now moving into Australia, partnering with Lendlease and certifying 14 of its commercial properties across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

This includes four buildings at Lendlease’s Barangaroo South precinct — International House Sydney and International Towers 1, 2 and 3 — as well as the new Circular Quay Tower development, all of which have achieved a WiredScore Platinum rating.
Other overseas buildings that hold platinum ratings include the Shard in London and the Empire State Building in New York.
“Despite connectivity being increasingly fundamental to a business’ operations, there has been little information available to tenants about the quality of connectivity in office spaces until now,” Lendlease chief executive of property Kylie Rampa said.
“We recognise connectivity plays a vital role in creating the best places for our customers and this is a driving force behind our partnership with global connectivity rating scheme, WiredScore.
“Office buildings like International Towers Sydney at Barangaroo South and Circular Quay Tower demonstrate our ability to provide our customers with the best solutions to meet all their current and future digital needs.”
The new rating adds to the list of variables office buildings can now be rated on, from energy, waste and water efficiency to wellness.

“Business leaders are demanding that landlords and developers have digital connectivity front of mind and are offering office space that meets their technological needs.”
WiredScore, which has rated more than 2,000 buildings across eight countries, taps into the property’s digital infrastructure before an acquisition, ensuring that a structure is properly positioned and in the best possible condition before being taken to market.
The rating tool comes at a time when in-building technologies and apps are of the highest priority for companies looking for future-proofed digital infrastructure within a building.
